Stepan Khzrtian is President of the Huys Foundation and a Luys alumnus (2011), earning his law degrees from Cambridge University and the American University of Armenia and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Yerevan State University. A licensed attorney in California and Armenia, Stepan is founding partner of LegalLab, an international business law boutique with offices in Yerevan and Los Angeles. He also serves on the Parish Council of the St. Leon Armenian Cathedral of the Western Diocese. In his free time, Stepan hones his espresso-making skills in passionate pursuit of the perfect cup.
Anna Srapionyan, a Luys alumna (2014), is a Quantitative Strategies Associate at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. She holds a PhD degree in Applied Mathematics from Cornell University, Master of Science in Financial Mathematics degree from The University of Chicago and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Yerevan State University. Anna also serves on the Board of Directors of Cornell Engineering Alumni Association and SIAM Career Opportunities Committee. To Anna, baking is the ideal form of meditation and mindfulness and she uses any excuse to heat up her oven.
Vartan Bezhanyan, a Luys alumnus (2011), is an associate at the Legal Department of The TCW Group, Inc., a global asset management firm, working on private funds, CLOs and derivatives. Previously, Vartan was the General Counsel of Ardshinbank and a Board Member of Armenia Insurance, advising on international financing transactions. A licensed attorney in California and Armenia, Vartan holds LLM from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, along with a PhD, MA and BA in Law from the Law Faculty of Yerevan State University. He enjoys RC racing, family outings and fishing.
Jacqueline Karaaslanian is a co-founder and CEO at Learning-Learning Architects and has a deep dedication to Learning Sciences and to Education. She worked at MIT's Media Lab for 28 years as Director of Special Projects and served as Founding Executive Director of Luys Education from inception to 2018. One of the accomplishments she is most proud of is to have brought hundreds of Luys scholars to think and co-create together. A strong education is at the base of the solution for any type of challenge ahead of us and anywhere in the world.
Vitali Avagyan, a Luys alumnus (2016), is a data scientist at the IT Data and Analytics department of Air Products and Chemicals Inc., an international industrial gas corporation. He finished his PhD degree in energy economics and computational optimisation (Imperial College London, 2017) after earning degrees in industrial engineering (American University of Armenia, 2012) and operations research (Armenian State University of Economics, 2010, 2008). His interest lies in the intersection of Big Data, programming, and energy economics. Despite his hectic schedule, he finds time to enjoy travelling, reading and playing board games.
Grisha Khachatryan, a Luys alumnus (2019), is a senior investment analyst at Magnifi – a fintech platform to discover and shop for investments products: Mutual Funds, ETFs and model portfolios. He started his career as an Economist at the Central Bank of Armenia, then served as a Chief Actuary at Rosgosstrakh-Armenia insurance company after which moved to the US to pursue his Master of Finance degree from MIT. He has a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics from Yerevan State University. Grisha is also a laureate of multiple international piano competitions and enjoys practicing piano in his spare time.
Anahit is the Director of Communications at Huys Foundation and a Luys Alumnus (2012) from University College London, with a Master’s in Human Rights. After graduating from UCL, she moved to Armenia for a period of five years where she worked for some of the most innovative organisations, including ONEArmenia, where she learned everything there is to know about digital marketing and communications. She was the Country Director until she left Armenia in 2017. Her career in non-profit management and development has taken her all around the world, including to Ecuador, Armenia, Kosovo, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Anahit has a mild obsession with dogs and can be seen taking selfies the world over with dogs both known and unknown to her.
Hayk Mikayelyan is the Director of Technologies at Huys Foundation as well as Huys Scholar 2018. Hayk is currently pursuing master's degree in Interactive Telecommunications program at New York University, where he is exploring the intersection of art and tech. Having prior experience in computer science and performance, he is delving into immersive world of technologies and magic, illusions and perception, human-computer-interactions and experience design. In the meantime, he enjoys running and recently finished the Popular Brooklyn Half.
The selection of Huys Scholars for the 2019-2020 academic year has been facilitated by an independent Scholarship Committee, comprised of five Luys alumni with backgrounds ranging medicine, finance, risk management, engineering, and politics and carrying degrees from MIT, University of Oxford, UCL, and University of Cambridge.
