Healthcare is a cornerstone of human dignity, yet equitable access to it remains out of reach for many. This global disparity—felt acutely in Armenia—fuels my commitment to transforming healthcare systems through technology and design. As an undergraduate at Stanford University, I’ve built a self-designed major in Bioengineering and Health Systems Design, combining medicine, engineering, and policy to address systemic gaps in care. My academic path, rooted in both innovation and equity, has been shaped by years of hands-on involvement in Armenian healthcare—beginning with the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) and now evolving into new technologies aimed at strengthening the very infrastructure that holds our system together.
In Armenia, access to care remains inconsistent and under-resourced. In both rural clinics and urban hospitals, physicians are overburdened, digital infrastructure is minimal, and patients suffer preventable complications due to delays in care and disjointed systems. These challenges are not abstract to me—I’ve worked in the ABMDR lab in Yerevan and coordinated donor logistics across the diaspora. I’ve seen how a single missing document or delayed result can mean the difference between life and death for an Armenian patient waiting on a match.
My commitment to improving healthcare in Armenia began nearly a decade ago with ABMDR. I later founded ABMDR NextGen, expanding recruitment and education efforts across diaspora campuses and partnering with Yerevan State Medical University to engage students in genomics and public health. These early efforts showed me how underinvestment in infrastructure—not a lack of talent—limits health outcomes in Armenia.
That’s what led me to co-found ClariChart, a healthcare startup that uses an AI-powered clinical assistant that distills patient records into decision-ready summaries. While we are beginning to pilot with clinics in the US, ClariChart was always meant to serve systems like Armenia’s—where care is often delayed not by medical complexity, but by logistical inefficiency. The tool is lightweight, modular, and multilingual by design, built for frontline physicians who don’t have the luxury of time or technology.
What makes my education unique is not just the technical training I’ve received, but the ecosystem I’m part of. Stanford—and Silicon Valley more broadly—sits at the intersection of medicine, design, and innovation. Through my work with Stanford Biodesign, venture capital firms, and hospital system partners, I’ve built the regulatory, technical, and human infrastructure needed to translate health technologies into real-world solutions. I’m committed to bringing these skills and networks back to Armenia, where the potential for transformation is real—and deeply needed. Armenia already has the talent and technological foundation: a thriving AI and engineering ecosystem with world-class capacity. What’s missing is the integration of that potential into healthcare. Bridging this gap and translating innovation into impact is the challenge I’ve dedicated myself to solving.
This year, I am applying to medical school with the goal of becoming a physician-engineer, someone who builds with patients in mind, and who practices with systems in view. My long-term vision is to strengthen Armenia’s health infrastructure through innovation: to digitize ABMDR’s donor-patient pipeline, to integrate tools like ClariChart in public clinics, and to create opportunities for young Armenians to build their own solutions, rooted in our cultural and medical realities. This work is not just a personal mission—it’s a necessary step toward addressing a deep, structural health challenge in Armenia. By improving the way information flows between patients, providers, and public systems, we can strengthen trust, expand access, and build a more resilient healthcare infrastructure. With the support of the Huys Scholarship, I am confident that we can turn vision into action, creating a future where healthcare equity in Armenia is not just an ideal, but a lived reality.
